We have now been here for 6 months....... doesnt time fly when you are enjoying yourself?!?

We have had an excellent start, thanks to the help and support from family, friends and not forgetting the locals of Great Ouseburn!!!

The Sunday night quizzes were very popular. All monies raised went directly to local organisations. People who benefitted are as follows: Great Ouseburn Cricket club, St Mary's Church Great Ouseburn (For the disabled access) and FOGOS (Friends Of Great Ouseburn School). The "Wooden Spooners" currently hold the record for most consecutive losses! They have now ceased for the summer period but will be back in the Autumn. If you have a charity you would like the proceeds to go to please contact Liz. All we ask is for you to provide a quiz master (we will provide the quiz questions) and someone to collect your money from participants.

Jan - April

We have had a flying start with lots of people popping in to see what we have done with the place. The most common comment is about the beams. Yes, they are back! We stripped them from the yukky putty coloured paint!!! With the weather being so cold we thought it might put people off from venturing out but fortunately it didnt!

May:

The Spring festival went well, although the weather was cold it didnt rain and the village raised lots of money for the local groups. Liz and Paul worked hard to get the back area (dual room) opened up in time for the festival. It is now up and running and has been very popular in the hot weather we have been experiencing!

June:

After applying for a variation on the licence to be able to serve food and drink out in the courtyard we ran into a few problems. The locals and regulars got together wrote letters of support and some even attended the hearing at the council to get the variation granted!!! At the end of May, the Beer garden, the Courtyard finally opened and I think the weather held off just for us!! The Courtyard is now in full swing so if you fancy dining al fresco please ask  when being seated!

July so far:

With no real land with the pub, growing veg is out of the question. However our little roof terrace is now the home of lots of little planters containing all the different types of herbs you can think of!! They are established enough now to start using so when you are tasting our culinary delights you know where the herbs are coming from!

A recent inspection from the EHO rewarded us with 4 out of 5 stars! We have just received a certificate!! There is a new scheme called Scores on the doors which informs the public about the cleanliness/working practices of a food premises. You can go to this site and check us or any other pub/restaurant etc and see what star rating they have been given. www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk
